Quick and Easy Ways to Elevate Your Fall Decor

Last updated on October 11th, 2023

Fall is one of the most magical times of year. It’s the moment where, for many of us, shorts and tank tops are traded in for warm sweaters and pumpkin spice everything. And in transitional climates, it’s also the time of year where leaves change from their characteristic green to brown, yellow, and orange. Even if you live in a climate that feels like summer year-round, you can still bring the coziness of the season to your space with a few thoughtfully selected accessories.

Here are a few quick and easy ways to decorate your home for the fall:

Hang a gourd themed wreath on your front door. Wreaths are perfect for the front door of apartments, too!

Love DIY? Repurpose a wooden vegetable crate into a decorative vignette for freshly picked (or purchased) pumpkins. This adorable combination of faux maple leaves, mini-pumpkins and straw bales brings a touch of the harvest season to any fall front porch.

Bring on the layers! Create an extra cozy first impression by layering rugs outside your front door. If you have a covered front porch that doesn’t see much rain, layering a jute rug over a buffalo check flatweave adds a grounded look that’s synonymous with fall. You can also take a leaf out of Stone Gable Blog‘s front porch style by pairing your favorite seasonal doormat with a striped or solid flatweave.

Outdoor Fall Decor Ideas

Though temperatures may be cooling down, fall is the perfect time for evenings on the patio or balcony with some smores. Outdoor pillows and blankets come in handy during these nights. Trade in your brightly colored outdoor accents for mattes and neutrals to match the season.

Decorating the Living Room for Fall

Your living room is where you can get as creative as you want with your fall decor:

Go subtle by adding neutral-toned pumpkins around your sofa and chairs. Dried grass adds a comforting, natural touch.

Fill a decorative planter with faux plants in rich autumnal colors and add it to a side or console table.

Have a fireplace at home? It’s the perfect place for a leaf garland! You can also add one to a TV console or media storage cabinet. This DIY fall leaf garland by Willow Bloom Home will have your fall mantel decor styled in a snap.

Create a coffee table vignette with candles in seasonal orange or beige, plus an artificial leaf arrangement. Add a couple of pumpkins in colors to match your decor. If pumpkins around the home aren’t your thing, scented pine cones are a lovely alternative that adds a great aroma!

Fall Decor Ideas for the Entryway, Hallway & Kitchen

Narrow and smaller spaces like the hallway and entryway are perfect for 2×3 rugs and runner rugs. The kitchen is great for runners, too. It’s one of the easiest ways to bring warmth while bridging the gap between your counter and stove area.

Toss a knit blanket onto an entryway bench or chair along with some textured and patterned throw pillows to create flow between your front porch and indoor decor.

Instead of a traditional bouquet, add a unique accent to your entryway or hallway table by gathering up freshly turned maple leaves. If the leaves around you have already gone fully brown, you can always add faux leaves to a mason jar for the same effect!
